SANGKARA
A Day to Celebrate the Earth through Dance and the Magical Sounds of Nature
SANGKARA is a multidisciplinary offering of dance and music that celebrates the sacred relationship between humans and nature. This work is a deep reflection of gratitude towards the Earth—its trees, oceans, and forests—as the source of life. Inspired by the sacred Tumpek Uduh ceremony in Balinese tradition, SANGKARA invites audiences into a spiritual and aesthetic experience that honors and reconnects us with the natural world.
⭐️Performance Structure ⭐️
Upon entering Dragon Tea Temple, each guest will receive a sacred Om symbol drawn on their forehead using glow-in-the-dark ink—a symbol of peace and grace (rahayu). UV lighting will reveal the glowing symbols, creating a collective spiritual atmosphere.
2. Opening Ritual Dance
Performed by four young female dancers and a wayang (shadow puppet) master, this opening ritual honors the universe and marks the beginning of the sacred performance space.
3. Lasti Dance
Inspired by the sacred Melasti ceremony at the sea, this dance reflects the ocean as a source of life and soul purification—representing a journey toward eternal happiness.
4. Sangkara Dance
The main work of the evening. A tribute to trees, the earth, and life itself. Performed by Ni Komang Ayu Anantha Putri with three female dancers and three wayang bearers, accompanied by sacred chants (kidung) and ritual elements drawn from the essence of Tumpek Uduh.
5. Eastern Forest Music
An original composition by Raissa Febriani, evoking the sacred forests of Bali revered as mothers and life-givers. In this segment, the audience is invited to respond freely with natural body movements—dancing as an act of gratitude and unity with nature.
6. Sarasvati Dance Collaboration: Human & Nature
As the finale, dancers and audience members join in a symbolic performance representing the continuous harmony and interconnection between humans and the natural world. Glow-in-the-dark lighting illuminates the space, symbolizing the collective light of life and the eternal bond between nature and humanity.
