Not T/here is an experimental documentary, reflecting on memory, self-narrative, materiality, mythmaking and our increasingly complex relationship with reality.
Drawing on documentary footage made over several years, archival material and ongoing research, the film traces our paths from the COVID-19 pandemic towards a speculative near future, set in 2035. A narrator attempts to piece together an archive left behind by a friend, an archivist who disappeared after documenting a world undergoing rapid technological and environmental change. As fragments of the archive intersect with personal memories, historical traces and the increasingly automated systems that shape what can be seen and remembered, the film moves between the physical traces of the past and the systems being built to replace them.
It considers what we choose to preserve, what disappears, and how easily the stories we inherit can be rewritten. It questions whether a future haunted by endlessly rewritten, hyper-personalized approximations of our pasts is as inevitable as it seems.

Not T/here est un documentaire expérimental proposant une réflexion sur la mémoire, le récit de soi, la matérialité, la construction des mythes et notre rapport de plus en plus complexe à la réalité.
 

À partir d’images documentaires tournées sur plusieurs années, de documents d’archives et de recherches, le film retrace nos trajectoires depuis la pandémie de COVID-19 jusqu’à un futur proche spéculatif, situé en 2035. Un narrateur tente de reconstituer les fragments d’archives laissés par un ami, archiviste de profession, qui a disparu après avoir documenté un monde traversé par de rapides transformations technologiques et environnementales. À mesure que les fragments de ces archives se mêlent aux souvenirs personnels, aux traces historiques et aux systèmes de plus en plus automatisés qui façonnent ce qui peut être vu et mémorisé, le film navigue entre les traces matérielles du passé et les systèmes conçus pour les remplacer.

Le film interroge ce que nous choisissons de préserver, ce qui disparaît et la facilité avec laquelle les récits dont nous héritons peuvent être réécrits. Il questionne également le caractère inévitable d’un avenir hanté par des représentations de nos passés, sans cesse réécrites et hyperpersonnalisées, qui n’en seraient que des approximations.
