Mooncakes at a Mid-Autumn Tea Gathering
Mooncake Workshop in Sanur, Bali
A Mid-Autumn Tea Gathering
以茶會友 — "Meeting friends over tea"
Join us for a hands-on mooncake-making workshop to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. You'll make both Traditional Mooncakes and Ice Mooncakes from scratch, guided step-by-step, and learn the stories and traditions behind the festival along the way. Sip on a rotating selection of Chinese tea, hand-picked by Mona, our Tea Master, as you work.
Mooncake-making accompanied by good teas🍵
You'll make two kinds of mooncakes side by side, so you can taste and feel the difference for yourself.
Traditional Mooncakes
The classic red bean mooncake (or other flavours such as Lotus paste), baked with a rich, slightly chewy pastry skin. Fillings can vary beyond red bean, and are often paired with a creamy salted egg yolk at the center for that sweet-savoury bite.
Ice Mooncakes (Snow Skin Mooncakes)
A no-bake alternative to the traditional mooncake. The "skin" is a chilled, glutinous rice-based dough with a soft, mochi-like texture, wrapped around a cool filling. Where traditional mooncakes are baked and dense, snow skin mooncakes are chilled and light.
