WORKSHOP: XVM (Xhabarabot Voice Machine) with Rully Shabara

This workshop introduces XVM, a set of web-based interfaces Rully Shabara built so anyone can make digital music. You don't need to be a musician. Each machine in the XVM series strips down the process of making digital music and runs on its own logic, ignoring how digital instruments are usually supposed to work.

In this session Rully walks you through how XVM works. You improvise instead of locking into rigid composition. You play without anyone checking your technical skill. You also learn to treat sound assets ethically and handle them as personal digital instruments, both in where the sound comes from and how you use it.

About Rully Shabara

Rully Shabara is a vocal artist and sound researcher who has spent over two decades exploring the human voice and language as material. He's the vocalist of SENYAWA and the mind behind conceptual projects like Khawagaka, Xhabarabot Voice Machines, and Raung Jagat. His work pushes against colonial frameworks and offers speculative methods for rereading the body, performance, and social relations through sound. Alongside performing and cross-disciplinary experiments, he leads workshops across different countries and builds interfaces and creative systems that open access for non-musicians. He co-founded Kombo Lab and mentored at Forecast 7 in Berlin.
